Small Town Witch Kristen S Walker Books

Ms Walker has given us a good tale here. Rosa is a very typical teenager. She has friends, has trouble with her mom and oh yeah, she is a witch in training. This is a fast read with a lot of the typical tropes you would expect from a teen age paranormal book. At times you want to strangle Rosa but at other times you find yourself really routing for this girl.

My only problem with this book is just as we get what should be the conclusion, it stops. This book suffers from NEP or not enough pages. We end without truly getting the end of this tale. It isn't a cliffhanger, but there is a major scene or two than needed to be written and included. All I can hope is that it is in the next book. I gave this four stars because really other than the ending this is a fine example of the genre.

Small Town Witch Kristen S Walker Books Reviews

I enjoyed reading this book. For being a first novel, Kristen did well. This is not heavy read. In fact it is a quick read that is totally appropriate for YA readers. Poor Rosa, our heroine, she really want to learn magic from her mother but is thwarted at every turn. Why? Read the book. You'll see. I hope to see more of this author. I definitely want to see further adventures of Rosa.
Rosa is a typical teenage girl, but her mother is way to controlling. I was sorry to see the family torn apart, but there didn't seem to be any other way to handle the problems. The Dad did develop a backbone to show the younger sister her way.
This was an ok read. Rosamunde was a good character that had a good head on her shoulders. She had some reservations about turning in her mom but I liked how the author handled it. I did miss the mother – daughter confrontation though. It all unwound pretty effortlessly. The ending is very anticlimactic.
fun. engaging. a nicely crafted (though not highly detailed) word that is easy to roll with and doesn't have any gaping pits or head scratches in the book to trouble the read. I liked the sinister build and the periphery characters. I also liked the main character and the book never leaves her which makes it single view and fast paced. read it in one long enjoyable sitting. Nice and easy to move through the pages and story. for what I got and at this price - oh yea - it earned its 5 stars. I'm off to buy book 2. well done Kristen!
contents rating - no profanity at all, very little to no violence, family drama, little romance but it's a side bar and I really liked that it was. Nice that it was kept as background music setting mood at times but not exploding worlds. very safely YA and ok for young readers, though enjoyable for adult readers too.
Rosamunde is a witch, so is her mother. It's no so unusual, at least not in Madrone, a gold rush town where faeriekin abound. Rosa, as her friends know her and her sister Akasha go to Crowther Private Academy, the Jr. and Sr. High School for magikin, few humans, even witches or scorcerers go there. In Rosa's class there were only 5 humans.

Her family gets along very well, almost never arguing, or fighting about anything. Even her friends think they are exceptionally nice to each other. Rosa is at that age where she should start dating, but really, she's never wanted to. Just the thought of dating makes her blush. She slowly starts to realize that there IS something odd about her family. I won't spoil the story, but what she finds is a real shocker! A great book to start a series, good for middle school and up,some mention of LGBT issues, but not the main focus of the story. I can't wait to read more about Rosa and her friends.
Part Hex hall and part Sweep. Small Town Witch nearly put me to sleep. The first 60% of the book is a girl going to school and hanging out with her friends, you know, typical high school girl stuff. Except some minor witch elements were thrown in. Initially it seemed as though the author didn't know where she was going to go with the story and kept writing it until she figured something out. Even then, the mystery in the plot was so obvious I wanted to slap the main character and I nearly stopped reading it, but I'm glad I didn't because once the main character finally (finally!) figures things out the story revs up and then promptly ends on a cliffhanger. If you can read through teenage drudgery there's a good story. The defining part of it, however, is the broom flying. There's not a lot of it, but it gave me a nostalgic Kiki's Delivery Service vibe.
This book was ok, but I wasn't particularly impressed. For much of the book Rosa was not a likable protagonist. She complained about suffering consequences for her actions, was unsympathetic towards her sister's school issues, and was a selfish friend.
The character did not experience any growth by the end of the book, and while I really want to find how the story continues, I cannot stomach listening to her whine.
